NBCC India Limited is a public sector company engaged in construction and real estate development, mainly for government projects. Founded in November 1960, the public sector undertaking is a key player in EPC (engineering, procurement and construction).
NBCC went public in 2012 and it was granted navratna status on June 23, 2014, the 15th PSU to get this recognition.
Earlier known as the National Buildings Construction Corporation, the company operates in construction of government buildings, housing projects and office spaces.
The company has received numerous awards for its achievements and it’s one of the PSUs to consistently receive ‘Excellent’ rating since 2004. The New Delhi-headquartered company manages its India and global operations through various divisions like project management group, business development, real estate, vigilance, contract engineering, law, centralised procurement group (CPG) and finance, among others.
The work of the corporation is further divided into several Regional Business Groups (RBGs), Strategic Business Groups (SBGs), Zones, Units and Sites.

NBCC India Ltd has emerged as a market leader in the construction business with its total order book reaching ₹85,000 crore mark in FY2019. The company has a pan-India presence through its 31 offices. Apart from India, it ventured into overseas operations in 1977 and the company currently has significant presence in Maldives, Mauritius, Africa and many Middle East countries, including Oman.
The total market capitalisation of NBCC India Ltd stands at ₹14,387 crore as of December 11, 20123. NBCC share price has surged more than 174% in the last three years as of December 11, 2023.
It’s the designated Central government agency for implementation of projects under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) and Solid Waste Management (SWM) schemes.
The public sector company’s operations are mainly divided into three primary segments.
Project Management Consultancy (PMC): The division is responsible for executing landmark projects in diversified sectors and government redevelopment projects. The PMC segment comprises 93% of the entire business of NBCC.
Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC): NBCC undertakes construction works under this segment division catering to construction of chimneys and cooling towers for power sector, among others. This segment contributes 4% of the total business of the company.
Real Estate Development: Development of residential and commercial properties for various government departments/agencies are executed under this division. This segment accounts for 3% of the total business of NBCC.
The company’s subsidiaries include NBCC Services Limited (NSL), NBCC Engineering & Consultancy Ltd. (NECL), NBCC Gulf LLC, Real Estate Development and Construction Corporation of Rajasthan Limited, NBCC International Limited and NBCC Environment Engineering Limited (NEEL).
The Central PSU acquired majority stake in Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited (HSCL), a PSU under Ministry of Steel in 2017. NBCC also acquired 100% stake in Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation Limited (HSCC), a miniratna hospital consultancy firm under the Health Ministry, in November 2018.
Financial Highlights
In FY 2022-23, NBCC India Ltd reported a strong growth in revenue and net profit.
• The total consolidated revenue of NBCC in FY 2022-23 stood at ₹8,961.47 compared to the ₹7,884.57 crore in the previous fiscal. The revenue was up 12% year-on-year. • NBCC’s consolidated net profit surged 17.2% to ₹278 crore in FY 2022-23 compared to ₹237 crore in FY22. • Its earnings per share stood at ₹1.48 in FY23 compared to the ₹1.25 in the previous financial year. • For the financial year ending March 2023 the company declared an equity dividend of 54% amounting to ₹0.54 per share.
