JSW Steel operates within the JSW Group, engaging in diversified sectors such as energy, infrastructure and cement. The JSW Group boasts a substantial $23 billion in revenue across crucial sectors.
In 1982, the JSW group ventured into the steel industry by acquiring Piramal Steel Limited, setting the foundation for JSW Steel's emergence. This initial move led to the formation of Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Limited (JVSL) in 1994. This strategic step expanded production capacity and solidified JSW's position in the Indian steel market.
A pivotal moment unfolded in 2005 when JISCO and JVSL merged, giving rise to JSW Steel Limited. This consolidation brought the entire Jindal Steel legacy under a unified entity.
On March 25, 2005, it became a listed public company on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE.
JSW Steel is India's foremost integrated steel producer, with an annual production capacity exceeding 18 million tonnes. The market capitalisation of JSW Steel is close to ₹200,000 crore as of February 1st, 2024. JSW Steel share price has gained over 110% in three years.
