The 30-share BSE SENSEX declined by 790 points or 1.08% to settle at 72,304.88 as 27 companies ended in the red. The Nifty fell 247.20 points or 1.11 % to 21,951.15. The bourses were dragged down by Power Grid, Bajaj Auto, IndusInd Bank, Maruti and Wipro.
Out of the NIFTY50 universe, 46 stocks declined. Meanwhile, India VIX, a measure of volatility in the domestic markets, rose 3.8%.
Among sectors, Media (-3.46%), PSU Bank (-2.30%), Realty (-2.11%) and Oil and Gas (-2.08%) suffered the most.
