Markets closed in green, NIFTY50 close above 21,250, while SENSEX rises over 350 points; Stock Market Highlights

The NIFTY Financial Services (+0.5%) index closed higher today, with REC Ltd (+2.5%), IEX (+2.4%) amongst top gainers, while Bajaj Finance (-1.4%) and Axis Bank(-1.1%) were top losers.

The broader markets saw a sharp recovery today. The NIFTY Midcap 100 index (+1.6%) closed higher. The NIFTY Smallcap 100 Index also closed in green, up 1.9%.

The BANK NIFTY (+0.8%) index closed higher at 47,840. Gains in HDFC Bank (+1.6%), Kotak Bank (+1.5%) and SBI (+1.1%) supported the index.

Benchmark indices recoup yesterday’s losses to close in higher amid volatility, with NIFTY50 (+0.5%) and Sensex (+0.5%) reporting smart intraday recovery. 38 out of the NIFTY50 stocks closed in green. Gains in heavyweight stocks like HDFC Bank (+1.6%), Reliance Industries(+1.3%), Kotak Bank(+1.5%), SBI(+1.1%) supported the markets.

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd soared 4.9% today after the company announced the approval of Anil Kumar Agarwal's appointment as the Deputy Managing Director and CEO of Freight Rail Systems within the company. The decision to assign this new role to Agarwal, who currently serves as the company's Chief Financial Officer, was made on Wednesday, according to an exchange filing.

IRCTC shares witnessed an approximate 8% surge in early trade, accompanied by high trading volumes. This rally follows the company's recent announcement outlining substantial expansion plans in the non-railway catering business nationwide.

In a regulatory filing on 13 December, the Mini-Ratna PSU declared that it is now poised to diversify its business beyond Railways to enhance its brand presence and operations throughout the nation. Subsequent to this announcement, IRCTC's share price has surged nearly 11% in seven trading sessions.
