NIFTY50 and SENSEX close higher in a volatile session, Oil & Gas stocks rise; Stock Market Highlights

The NIFTY Financial Services (+0.5%) index closed higher today, with REC Ltd (+6.7), PFC (+5.0%) being the top gainers, while Chola Finance (-1.9%) and Kotak Bank (-0.9%) being the top losers.

The NIFTY Midcap 100 index (+1.5%) closed higher today. Meanwhile, NIFTY Smallcap 100 Index (+1.0%) closed in the green today.

The BANK NIFTY (+0.06%) index closed in the green. Gains in ICICI Bank (+1.3%) Axis Bank (+1.6%), PNB (+3.7%) and Bank of Baroda (+1.3%) supported the index.

India benchmark indices – NIFTY50 (+0.8%) and SENSEX (+0.7%) – closed higher rebounding after falling three days in a row. Out of the NIFTY50 universe, 45 stocks made gains. On the sectoral front, Oil & Gas and FMCG were the top gainers.

ICICI Bank is all set to announce its December quarter results on 20 January. The price of the stock as of 2:30 pm on 19 January is ₹1001.

NIFTY Oil & Gas index was amongst top gainers today supported by gains in stocks like ONGC (+3.6%), Indian Oil Corporation (+2.7%), Gail India (+2.7%).

Shares of Supreme Industries jumped 6% after the company’s Q3FY24 net profit rose 22% YoY to ₹256.2 crore. Meanwhile, its revenue from operations was at ₹2,449 crore versus ₹2,311 crore in the same quarter of FY23.
