Tata Power subsidiary commissions India’s largest solar, battery energy storage project in Chhattisgarh
Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (TPSSL), a step-down subsidiary of Tata Power Company, has commissioned India’s largest solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) project in Chhattisgarh. The project comprises a 100 MW Solar PV Project coupled with a 120 MWh Utility Scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Tata Power said in an exchange filing on Tuesday, March 12.
The new BESS project is the country’s largest such energy storage project owned by TPSSL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL).
The Tata Group company secured the ₹945-crore project from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) on an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) basis in December 2021. The order pertained to engineering, design, supply, construction, erection, testing, operation and maintenance, and commissioning of the project.
"The successful commissioning of the largest solar and battery storage project for SECI reflects the technical expertise and project execution skills of Tata Power Solar. This will ensure round-the-clock green energy and accelerate the renewable energy transition through innovative solutions," said Deepesh Nanda, CEO and Managing Director of TPREL.
In line with India's renewable energy goals, the project is expected to generate 243.53 million units of energy annually while reducing the carbon footprint of 4.87 million tonnes in 25 years.
Commenting on the development RP Gupta, IAS, Chairman and MD, SECI, said, “We are committed to leverage latest technology in the renewable energy segment and this project supports the country’s energy transition vision. The project has been delivered on time by Tata Power Solar that will help in providing 24x7 renewable energy."
One of the market leaders in the solar energy sector, TPSSL's solar EPC portfolio includes over 12.8 GWp of ground-mount utility-scale, and more than 2GW of rooftop and distributed ground-mounted systems.
Tata Power shares closed 4.13% lower at ₹396.1 apiece on NSE on Tuesday.
