According to a company statement, a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Infrastructure Ltd will develop a 7 million tonnes per annum berth to handle dry bulk cargo at VO Chidambaranar Port in Tamil Nadu.

In a filing to the stock exchanges, JSW Infra said that its subsidiary JSW Tuticorin Multipurpose Terminal Pvt Ltd has entered into a concession agreement with VO Chidambaranar Port Authority to develop and Mechanize a new 7 MPTA Cargo Berth III at the Tuticorin port.

The 7 MTPA North Cargo Berth-III will handle dry bulk cargo. The company informed the stock exchanges that it will develop the berth on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis.

“The Company will leverage its operational capabilities of handling bulk products and increase its cargo share on the East Coast,” JSW Infra said.

The asset provides access to the rich hinterland with a diverse cargo profile including dry bulk, coal, limestone, gypsum, rock phosphate and copper concentrate.

Earlier in February, JSW Infra received a letter of award from VO Chidambaranar Port Authority for mechanising North Cargo Berth-III through a PPP basis.

JSW Infrastructure is India’s second-largest private commercial port operator.

The company last week announced the acquisition of a 70.37% shareholding in Navkar Corporation Limited for ₹1,012 crore in a cash deal.

The acquisition will result in JSW Infra’s foray into logistics and other value-added services. It will facilitate the business to offer improved port connectivity and streamlined supply chain solutions to its customers.

Navkar Corp offers a range of services across the logistics supply Chain such as transportation services through a rail terminal facility and container train operation, consolidation/de-consolidation before export or import and storage and warehousing services.

JSW Infra recently signed a contract with Southern Railway for the construction and operation of Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) at Arakkonam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The terminal will be built on railway land.

JSW Infra shares are trading 0.34% lower at ₹348.7 apiece on the NSE at 11.45 am.
