Stock Market Highlights: NIFTY50, SENSEX close higher as Reliance, Mahindra & Mahindra and L&T lead

Benchmark Indices – NIFTY50 (+0.51%) and SENSEX (+0.45%) – opened higher on Tuesday. NIFTY50 ended at 22,217. Out of the NIFTY50 space, 36 stocks were advancing. Adani Enterprises, Mahindra & Mahindra and Hero MotoCorp were among top gainers.

Boosting inter-city travel services in India, the Indian Railways recently unveiled its first Vande Metro train from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, has supplied the tempered 201LN grade of high-strength stainless steel for this prestigious project.

The Vande Metro train is a shorter-distance version of the Vande Bharat Express.

Multiplex chain PVR Inox's net loss narrowed to ₹90.1 crore during the fourth quarter of financial year 2023-24 (Q4FY24), as per the results declared by the company on Monday.

The net loss in the year-ago period was around three times higher at ₹285.7 crore.

Shares of Cochin Shipyard were trading over 9% on Tuesday after the company notified the stock exchanges about a large order-win from a European client. The order, which falls in the ₹500-1,000 crore range, is for the design and construction of a hybrid service operation vessel (Hybrid SOV) with an option for two more such vessels, the company said. Refractory Shapes Ltd made a dream debut on stock exchanges on Tuesday, May 14, listing at a bumper premium of around 142%.

Shares of the company started trading in the open market at ₹75 per share against the issue price of ₹31 per share, reflecting a stellar premium of 141.93%.

Gold futures opened higher on India’s Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Tuesday, after the prices climbed down significantly in the trading session a day prior. In the opening hour, the metal was edging higher by nearly quarter-of-a-percentage point to cross the ₹72,200 per 10 gram mark.
