When do pricing-related changes take effect after switching plans?

Pricing changes apply at different times depending on whether you're upgrading or downgrading, and which specific charges are affected.

Upgrading to Plus (Basic → Plus)

When you activate Upstox Plus, all pricing changes take effect from the next trading day.

Next day implementation

  • Brokerage increases to ₹30 per trade (from ₹20)
  • Net Banking transfers become FREE (from ₹7)
  • Instant withdrawals become FREE (from ₹20)
  • Strategy Builder discounts apply
  • Lower MTF and margin pledge rates active

Why next day?

This ensures system coordination across trading, billing and settlement platforms, preventing mid-day pricing conflicts.

Downgrading to Basic (Plus → Basic)

When switching from Plus to Basic, changes occur on different timelines.

Same-day changes

  • Net Banking transfers ₹7 charge applies immediately.
  • Instant withdrawals ₹20 charge applies immediately.

Next-day changes

  • Brokerage - Reverts to ₹20 per trade from next trading day.
  • Strategy Builder - Standard per-leg charges from next day.
  • MTF/Margin Pledge rates - Standard rates from next day.

Why the difference?

Transfer and withdrawal charges are independent of trading operations and can be updated instantly. Brokerage changes require overnight system synchronisation to ensure accurate trade settlements.

Before downgrading from Plus to Basic

  • Complete all pending fund transfers while Plus is active (zero charges).
  • Withdraw any profits before switching to avoid ₹20 instant withdrawal fee.
  • Time your downgrade after market close to avoid confusion on trade pricing.
