If you want to update or correct your name on your Upstox account, you need to submit physical forms and documents via courier.

This article explains who can apply, what documents are required, and how to complete the process—step by step.

Important Things to Know Before You Apply

• All name change requests are processed only in offline mode (via courier).
• Submit only one request per form.
• Do not combine multiple requests (for example, Address + Signature change) on the same form.
• Each request is processed separately and takes 2–3 working days after receipt.
• Do not fill address details / other details when applying for a name change.
• Please mention only the name fields that need to be updated and leave all other fields blank.
• Changes related to bank addition, address, email ID, or mobile number must be made online via your Upstox profile.

Types of Name Change Requests & Required Documents

Please refer to the table below to identify the category your name request falls under and the documents required.

1. Minor Name Change

These are small corrections or rearrangements in your existing name.

The Annexure B image shared is for reference only. Do not print, sign, or courier the reference copy. It is provided only to help you understand which fields need to be filled.

Supporting Documents to Include

Mandatory Document (Required for All Requests)

• Self-attested copy of the PAN card with the updated name. (If your PAN card has white space, please sign within the white space provided on the PAN card and self-attest it.)

Additional Documents (Based on Your Request Type)

• Self-attested Marriage Certificate, Divorce Certificate, or Gazette Publication, as applicable

• For clients residing in Karnataka and Punjab:

  • Submit an original newspaper publication, or

  • A notarised photocopy if the Gazette copy is unavailable

Details to Fill in the Forms

Make sure the following details are filled correctly:

• Upstox Client ID

• Basic details

  • Name as per the Income Tax database(Your name must be updated with the Income Tax Department before applying)

  • Date of Birth

  • PAN Card number

  • Passport Size Photo with across signature on it.

Please note: Kindly ensure that the signature is placed across the photograph, with half on the photo and half on the form.

• Signature as per Upstox records

Common Reasons for Rejection (Avoid These)

• Overwriting, cancellation, or use of a whitener
• Using markers, pencils, or colourful pens
• Filling unnecessary fields on the form
• Combining multiple requests on a single form

Processing Time

Once your courier is received, your request will be processed within 2–3 working days.

Charges

A fee of ₹50 + GST will be debited from your trading account for processing a name change request.
