Markets close higher for sixth consecutive day, NIFTY50 hits fresh all-time high, SENSEX closes above 73,000

Benchmark indices, NIFTY50 (+0.3%) and SENSEX (+0.4%), closed higher today, extending gains for the sixth consecutive day. Out of the NIFTY50 space, 27 stocks closed in the green. Gains in heavyweight stocks like HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Power Grid, Kotak Bank supported the index.
The broader market indices underperformed compared to benchmark indices. The NIFTY Smallcap index was down 0.5%, while the NIFTY Midcap index also closed 0.1% lower.
On the sectoral front, NIFTY Media (+2.2%) and Financial Services (+1.2%) were the top gainers. On the other hand, IT (-0.8%) and Auto (-0.6%) were the top losers. Meanwhile, the volatility index, the India VIX rose 0.3% to 16.07.
Coming to stock-specific movement, Zee Entertainment closed 6.6% higher after media reports said the broadcaster is making a final attempt to revive its failed $10 billion merger with Sony's India unit.
Meanwhile, shares of recently-listed Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services surged 13.5% after a new business agreement with Easy Trip Planners to offer integrated travel and expense management solutions to corporate clients.
