NIFTY50 closes near 22,100, SENSEX up 190 points; NIFTY IT slips 2.33%

SUMMARY

Benchmark Indices – NIFTY50 (+0.39%) and SENSEX (+0.26%) – recouped early morning losses to close in the green. Out of the NIFTY50 space, 38 stocks ended higher. Sun Pharma, UPL, and Hero Moto were among top gainers.

Except for IT, all NIFTY sectoral indices closed in the green.

Benchmark indices closed in the positive territory on Friday, with the NIFTY50 and SENSEX gaining 0.39% and 0.26%, respectively. The indices surged due to gains in heavyweight stocks such as ITC, Larsen & Toubro, and Sun Pharma.

The NIFTY50 rose as much as 0.77% and the SENSEX 0.65% intraday. Out of the NIFTY50 space, 38 stocks ended higher.

The NIFTY Midcap 100 index rose 0.59%, while Smallcap 100 advanced 0.64%.

Except for IT (-2.33%), all NIFTY sectoral indices closed in the green. The Realty index rose by 1.76%, followed by Auto (+1.67%) and Media (+1.25%).

The IT stocks were down after Accenture cut its revenue forecast, with LTIMindtree (-2.94%), Infosys (-2.78%), Coforge (-2.71), Persistent Systems (-2.56%) and Wipro (-2.46%) shedding the most.

On the stocks front, Reliance Power shares hit their upper circuit for the third straight day after the company settled its debt with ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and DBS Bank in the last two weeks.

Shares of Prestige Estates Projects closed 4.90% higher at ₹1,100 after the company acquired 62.5 acres of land for ₹468 crore in Indirapuram Extension, NCR.
