SUMMARY
Benchmark Indices – NIFTY 50 (+0.22%) and SENSEX (+0.15%) closed the trading session positively on Monday after a heavy sell-off in the morning session. Cipla (+6.08%), Asian Paints (+3.85%), HDFC Life (+3.57%), Adani Enterprises (+3.27%) and Adani Ports (+3.03%) were the top gainers today.
Indian market rebounds from day lows to close in green, Cipla and Asian Paints among the top gainers
On Monday, the 30-share BSE SENSEX closed in green, gaining by 0.15% to settle at 72,776.13. NSE NIFTY 50 ended at 22,104.05 which recovered from day lows of -1.12% to close up by 0.22%. The India VIX continued to gain and closed at 20.59.
In the NIFTY50 space, 26 stocks advanced. Cipla (+6.08%), Asian Paints (+3.85%), HDFC Life (+3.57%), Adani Enterprises (+3.27%) and Adani Ports (+3.03%) were the major gainers. Laggards included Tata Motors (-8.34%), BPCL (-1.72%), Shriram Finance (-1.67%), Coal India (-1.15%) and NTPC (-1.13%).
The broader markets ended on a mixed note with Nifty Midcap ending in green up by 0.41%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 declined by 0.43% on Monday. Market breadth was weak today as 1,216 stocks declined and 902 stocks gained on NSE.
Among sectors, most of the indices ended the day with significant gains. The top three sectoral performers were NIFTY Pharma (+1.73%), NIFTY Healthcare (+1.55%) and NIFTY Realty (+1.25%). On the other hand, the top two losers were Nifty Auto (-1.72%) and Nifty PSU Bank (-1.32%).
In the Asian equity markets, the majority of indices were in red. The Hang Seng index climbed by 0.80%, while the Shanghai market ended the session in red, and Kospi was marginally down by 0.02%.
At 4:00 PM: Dow Jones Futures were seen trading at 39,669, with minor gains of 0.07%.
On Monday, shares of Zomato Limited slumped by 3.82% on the BSE. The company announced its fourth-quarter results for FY24. Revenue stood at ₹3,562 crore, and Net Profit at ₹175 crore, from a loss of ₹188 crore in the same quarter last year.
UPL Limited's stock zoomed by 7.38% on the NSE. The company announced its financial results for Q4FY24. Revenue from operations declined by 15% to ₹14,078 crore compared to ₹16,569 crore during the same quarter of the previous year. The board declared a dividend of ₹1 per equity share of ₹2.
On Monday, shares of Hero MotoCorp Limited gained by 0.16% on the NSE. The company announced that it joined ONDC Network and became the first auto company to do so.
