NTPC shares hit 52-week high on board approval to ₹17,000-crore investment in Singrauli Plant

NTPC Ltd shares rallied nearly 5% to touch a 52-week high of ₹358.3 apiece on NSE after the company's Board approved a fresh investment proposal worth ₹17,000 crore for its Singrauli plant.

In a stock exchange filing on Monday, the state-owned company said that its Board of Directors, at the meeting held on March 3, approved ₹17,195.31 crore investment for the Singrauli Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-III (2x800 MW) in Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated laid the foundation stone for ₹30,023 crore NTPC projects across the country on Monday. This also included laying the foundation stone of the Singrauli project, developed in the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh.

PM Modi dedicated ₹8,007 crore Unit 2 (800 MW) of NTPC's Telangana Super Thermal Power Project (Stage-I) in the Peddapalli district of the state.

Additionally, the Prime Minister dedicated a ₹4,609 crore, Unit-2 (660 MW) of North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (3×600 MW) in Jharkhand and fly ash-based lightweight aggregate plant established at Sipat Super Thermal Power Station in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

The Unit-2 (660 MW) of North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project is the country's first Supercritical Thermal Power Project equipped with Air Cooled Condenser technology that results in one-third the water footprint as that of a conventional Water Cooled Condenser (WCC).

The commercial operation of Unit 1 of the North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project began last year in May.

Developed at an investment of ₹51 crore, the plant at Sipat Power station will fly ash with coal to produce aggregates, thus promoting bulk fly ash utilisation, conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.
