Larsen and Toubro (L&T) on Wednesday announced receiving a ‘significant’ order from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Madurai, Tamil Nadu, through its Buildings and Factories (B&F) division.

In a filing to the stock exchanges, the construction and infrastructure giant said that its B&F vertical has received the order through the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) division of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The contract's exact value was not revealed, but L&T classified it as ‘significant’ order. As per L&T classification, orders worth between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore fall under ‘significant’ category.

The project includes a 720-bed hospital, a 150-bed infectious diseases block, a 30-bed Ayush Block, a 150-seat medical college, a nursing college, a 750-seater auditorium, along with hostel and residential facilities, the company informed the bourses.

The project has a 33-month deadline for completion. It will include 2.1 million square feet of built-up space. The scope of work includes civil structures, finishes, MEP services and external development, as well as landscaping.

In 2019, the first step towards building AIIMS, Madurai, as a medical institution in the region was taken with the laying of the foundation stone. Pre-construction work on the project got underway a week ago at the AIIMS project site in Madurai with a puja ceremony.

Recently, the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) awarded a contract to Larsen & Toubro's hydrocarbon business. Belonging to ONGC's Mumbai High and Tapti offshore locations, the project involves engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of new process gas compressor modules. Additionally, the project includes the upgrade of existing facilities aimed at enhancing production capabilities.

Last month, L&T announced that it had secured a ‘large’ order for its transportation infrastructure division. L&T classifies projects worth ₹2,500 to ₹5,000 crore as large orders.

L&T is involved in hi-tech manufacturing, services and EPC projects. It is active in more than 50 nations globally.

Shares of L&T closed 2.29% lower at ₹3538.55 apiece on NSE on Wednesday.
