Bajaj Auto on Tuesday, April 23, announced the appointment of Abraham Joseph as the managing director of Chetak Technology Ltd, its electric vehicle (EV) arm.

The automaker, in a statement, said the decision is part of the strategy to “accelerate technological innovation” and cement the company’s position in the emerging mobility segments.

Under his leadership, Bajaj Auto said, Chetak Technology will pivot to become a “high-tech organisation focused on developing core competencies across the spectrum of cutting-edge automotive technologies.”

Who is Abraham Joseph, the new head of Bajaj Auto’s EV arm?

Joseph started his tenure in Bajaj in July 1989 as a Graduate Trainee Engineer, took over as General Manager (R&D) in April 2005, Vice President (R&D) in April 2007 and was serving as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) before being elevated as the MD of the EV arm. He is a Mechanical Engineer from the National Institute of Technology, Bhopal.

As the CTO, he has been instrumental in leading the development of brands like Pulsar and overseeing the creation of numerous standout products across various segments, including Platina, CT, Boxer, Discover, V, Avenger, and Dominar, the company said.

He also led the development of a variety of three-wheeler products for both cargo and passenger segments, spanning various fuel variants such as petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG and Electric.

"Moreover, India's first quadricycle, Qute, was launched under his leadership," the statement said.
