Lok Sabha Election 2024 bank holiday: The first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 is taking place on Friday, April 19, and banks in some cities where polling is scheduled are closed. Some states have also declared paid or public holiday on voting day.

According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) holiday calendar, banks will remain shut in nine cities on April 19. They are Chennai, Agartala, Itanagar, Dehradun, Aizawal, Jaipur, Nagpur, Kohima and Shillong.

A bank holiday has not been announced for all constituencies where polling will take place in the first phase on Friday. Presently, the RBI holiday calendar lists only nine cities.

Which states have declared a public holiday or paid off?

Uttarakhand has declared a public holiday on April 19, while Nagaland has announced that all government and private employees will receive a paid time off on the voting day. Tamil Nadu government has also declared a public holiday on Friday.

Lok Sabha election 2024: States in phase 1 of voting

In the first phase, 39 seats will go into polls in Tamil Nadu, 12 seats in Rajasthan, eight seats in Uttar Pradesh, six seats in Maharashtra, six seats in Madhya Pradesh, five seats in Uttarakhand, five seats in Assam, four seats in Bihar, three seats in West Bengal, two seats in Manipur, two seats in Meghalaya, two seats in Arunachal Pradesh, two seats in Meghalaya, one seat in Mizoram, one seat in Chhattisgarh, one seat in Tripura, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir, one seat in Nagaland, one seat in Sikkim, one seat in Lakshadweep, one seat in Puducherry and one seat in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The Lok Sabha elections in 543 constituencies are taking place in seven phases.

Here's a look at the phase-wise polling dates:

  • First phase: April 19
  • Second phase: April 26
  • Third phase: May 7
  • Fourth phase: May 13
  • Fifth phase: May 20
  • Sixth phase: May 26
  • Seventh phase: June 1

The counting of votes will take place on June 4, 2024, the Election Commission has announced.
