SUMMARY
The Homosep Atom, India's first septic tank and manhole cleaning robot, has reached 16 cities across India, aiding in the efforts to eliminate manual scavenging.
Homosep Atom helped clean up manhole blockages and reduced sewer overflows in Madurai.
The Homosep Atom offers a comprehensive solution to tackle manual scavenging by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) to inspect, clean, and manage confined spaces for sanitation purposes.
Developed by Solinas, a startup incubated in the Department of Science and Technology (DST)-Technology Business Incubator of IIT-Madras, this robotic solution has significantly contributed to cleaning manhole blockages and reducing sewer overflows in cities like Madurai and Chennai.
By targeting septic tanks associated with large apartments, housing boards, and individual houses, Homosep Atom enables Municipalities to efficiently clean, clear, and transport waste to treatment plants. Moreover, it empowers sanitary workers by allowing them to clean manholes from outside, eliminating the need to enter toxic environments.
Solinas, the startup behind Homosep Atom, specialises in developing miniature robots for the water and sanitation sector, including India's first 90mm water robot and 120mm sewer robot. These robots navigate through pipelines below 100mm to address water and sewer pipeline contamination challenges.
Overall, Homosep Atom and Solinas are revolutionising the water and sanitation sector, improving conditions and promoting a cleaner environment.
