The net banking and mobile banking services of HDFC Bank, India’s largest private lender, were down on Monday, April 22. The outage lasted for “several hours”, according to some of the bank customers who took to social media to highlight their grievances.

“(For) last 10-12 hours, HDFC Bank’s net banking is not working...It’s really tough time for businesses,” an X user, identified as Arbind Tiwari, posted on the social media platform at 10:26 pm on April 22.

“It is unacceptable in today's Digital India that HDFC Bank’s net banking and mobile app do not work for an entire day! Huge loss of trust! Where are your backup systems? Who bears the loss caused due to this to your customers? (sic),” another X user, identified as S Lohia, posted at 5:03 am on April 23.

“@HDFC_Bank again IT glitches since yesterday. Unable to access net banking portal, set up UPI through multiple options, make UPI payments,” an X user, identified as Amit Mittal, marked his complaint on social media in the early hours of April 23 by tagging the official handle of the bank.

After the net banking and mobile banking outage was reported on April 22, HDFC Bank acknowledged the glitch and said that its team was actively working to resolve the issue. In the meanwhile, it suggested customers to use alternatives like MobileBanking, Payzapp, MyCards or Chat Banking for their online transactions.

“A few customers may experience issues while accessing NetBanking. We're actively working to resolve this at the earliest. Meanwhile, please use MobileBanking, Payzapp, MyCards or Chat Banking via Whatsapp on 7070022222 for transactions. We regret the inconvenience,” it posted on X.

Meanwhile, HDFC Bank had reported its fourth quarter earnings on April 20. The lender’s net profit was sequentially flat at ₹16,511 crore, whereas the net interest income grew by 2.1% quarter-on-quarter to ₹29,077 crore.

On April 22, the bank’s shares settled 1.25% lower on the NSE at ₹1,512.2 apiece.
