Bank holidays in April 2024: Banks in most states are closed on the first day of the new financial year (FY 2024-25) on April 1, 2024, for annual closing, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.

Are banks closed on April 1, 2024?

On April 1, 2024, banks are shut to close their yearly accounts in many states except Mizoram, Sikkim, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Chandigarh. The holiday falls under the banks’ closing of accounts category.

RBI also informed that the exchange and deposit of ₹2,000 notes won't be available on Monday. "The facility of exchange / deposit of ₹2000 banknotes will not be available on Monday, April 01, 2024 at the 19 Issue Offices1 of the Reserve Bank of India due to operations associated with the Annual Closing of Accounts. The facility will resume on Tuesday, April 02, 2024," RBI said in a notification issued on March 28, 2024.

Bank holidays in April 2024

Banks will remain closed for a total of 14 days in April 2024 on account of public and regional holidays, second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays. The closures will be on different dates depending on the state or union territory as some have declared public holidays while others have not.

The holidays in April include, Babu Jagjivan Ram Jayanti/Jumat-ul-Vida, Gudi Padwa/Ugadi/Sobhakritnama samvatsaram/Sajibu Nongmapanba (Cheiraoba)/Navratra, Ramzan-Id (Id-Ul-Fitr), Rongali Bihu/Cheiraoba/Vaisakhi/Biju Festival, Himachal Day, Shree Ram Navami (Chaite Dasain) and Garia Puja.

Regular Bank Closures

  • April 7: Sunday
  • April 13: Second Saturday
  • April 14: Sunday
  • April 21: Sunday
  • April 27: Fourth Saturday
  • April 28: Sunday

Despite national or state holidays, online banking services are available for customers, including mobile banking, net banking, unified payment interface (UPI) and even ATMs.
