NIFTY50 and SENSEX recoup losses to close higher, Reliance Industries at four-month high; Stock Market Highlights

The NIFTY Financial Services (-0.05%) index closed lower today. HDFC AMC (+3.3%), SBI (+1.1%) and Muthoot Finance (+0.8%) were the top gainers, whereas SBI Life (-1.2%) and HDFC Life (-0.8%) were the top losers.

The NIFTY Midcap 100 index (-0.3%) closed marginally lower. The NIFTY Smallcap 100 Index also closed in red, down 0.1%.

The BANK NIFTY (+0.01%) index closed marginally higher at 47,870. Gains in SBI (+1.1%), Axis Bank (+0.6%) and IndusInd Bank (+0.6%) supported the index.

Benchmark indices ended in the green amid volatility. NIFTY50(+0.1%) closed at 21,453 level, while SENSEX(+0.1%) rose 122 points in today’s session. Gains in heavyweight stocks like Reliance Industries (+1.4%), Coal India (+6.1%), ITC (+1.0%), Nestle India (+4.7%) propelled the markets higher. On the sectoral front, FMCG and Oil & Gas were the top gainers, while IT and Auto were the top losers.

• The pharmaceutical company has entered into a trademark licence agreement with Novartis Innovative Therapies AG of Switzerland with the cost of ₹964 crore to acquire a portfolio of select ophthalmology brands. It has also signed an agreement to pay ₹125 crore for promotion and distribution to the company's Indian subsidiary, Novartis Healthcare Private Ltd.

• The licence agreement is expected to be completed by January 2027, while the promotion and distribution agreement is expected to complete by January 2024. Meanwhile, shares of the company are down by 0.1%.

Shares of Transformers and Rectifiers (India) rose over 4% today after the company secured a new order worth ₹237 crore from Power Grid Corporation of India. The order work involves the designing and manufacturing of reactors at Dausa Substation, which will be completed within 15 months.

Meanwhile, the company's shares are up over 243% on a year-to-date basis.

Benchmark indices bounced back after trading lower in the early morning trade. NIFTY50 (+0.3%) crosses 21,500 level for the first time supported by rise in FMCG stocks like Nestle India (+4.3%), ITC (+1.1%) and Reliance Industries (+1.7%). Meanwhile, SENSEX hits lifetime high of 71,623.
