NIFTY50 and Sensex close in the red, PSU Banks rise; Stock Market Highlights

The NIFTY Smallcap100 index rose 0.6% to close at 13,610. Meanwhile, the NIFTY Midcap100 index was up marginally by 0.07% at 41,009.

FIN NIFTY was down 0.5% today. SBI Life (-2.2%), Bajaj Finance (-1.2%) and ICICI Prudential Life (-1.0%) were the top losers today.

The BANK NIFTY (-0.2%) index closed in the red. Weakness in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank (-0.7%), ICICI Bank (-0.8%) and Axis Bank (-0.3%) dragged down the index.

India’s benchmark indices closed in the red. NIFTY50 was down 0.4%, while Sensex (-0.5%) closed 325 points lower. All NIFTY sectoral indices closed in the red except PSU Bank (+2.4%) and Metal (+0.3%).

The real estate developer acquired 16,152 square metres of land in Mumbai for around ₹218 crore. Shares of the company are 1.4% today.

The retail inflation rate in India is expected to drop to 4.8% in October this year, according to the street expectations. The inflation stood at 5.0% in September.

Experts believe that inflation may ease in October led by declining vegetable prices.

Shares of the state-owned engineering company are up 6.5% today.

Experts point out that the company has a healthy pipeline of thermal orders. They expect the thermal market to revive due to challenges of meeting the 2030 renewable energy target.

In Q2, the company reported a loss of ₹238 crore on back of higher interest costs and rising raw material prices.
