Sensex climbs 560 points to close at 73,648, Nifty up 1% as ICICI Bank, L&T lead

Benchmark indices closed in the positive territory on Monday. The 30-share BSE SENSEX climbed 560 points or 0.77% to settle at 73,648. The NSE NIFTY jumped 223 points or 1% to close at 22,370.

Out of the NIFTY50 space, 44 stocks were advancing. Tata Consumer Products, BPCL, L&T, Eicher Motors and Shriram Finance were the major gainers, while NTPC, HDFC Bank, JSW Steel, IndusInd Bank and Bajaj Auto were among the laggards.

In the broader market, the NIFTY Midcap100 gauge gained 0.82%, and the NIFTY Smallcap100 index climbed 1.31%.

Among the sectoral indices, NIFTY PSU Bank jumped 3.07% and NIFTY Healthcare climbed 1.08%. NIFTY Auto (+0.94%) and NIFTY FMCG (+0.84%) also gained.

In Asian markets, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Seoul settled in green while Shanghai ended lower. European markets were trading higher. Wall Street closed on a mixed note on Friday.

Shares of HDFC Bank closed 1.11% down after reporting its results for the fourth quarter of FY24 over the weekend. The lender had reported a consolidated net profit of ₹64,060 crore for FY24. Read more.

Aditya Birla Group-owned UltraTech Cement ended the day with 2.19% gains after the company announced acquisition of a grinding unit and captive railway siding from India Cement for ₹315 crore. Read more.

The follow-on offering (FPO) by Vodafone Idea Ltd has been fully subscribed. On the last day of the subscription, as many as 4,212.56 crore equity shares were sought against the issue size of 1,260 crore, according to information on stock exchanges.
