Brokerage stocks rebound up to 10% as SENSEX, NIFTY return to green

Domestic benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY on Thursday made a decent recovery after plunging over 1% in the previous session. The SENSEX closed 335.39 points, or 0.46%, higher at 73,097.28, and the NIFTY ended with a gain of 153.30 points, or 0.7%, at 22,151.

Despite opening the session on a tepid note, the BSE gauge reached the day's high at 73,364. Throughout the day, SENSEX swung by 867 points, dipping below the key level of 72,500 at its lowest point. Similarly, the NIFTY started weak but gained strength as the trade progressed, hitting the day's high at 22,204.6 before erasing some gains.

In line with the recovery in broader markets, shares of brokerages reclaimed some of the territory lost in the previous few sessions. Leading brokerage firms like Dolat Algotech Ltd, Angel One, Geojit Financial Services Ltd, Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd, Motilal Oswal Financial Services and IIFL Securities gained up to 10%.

Of the 11 brokerage stocks reviewed here, 9 closed in the green zone, barring ICICI Securities and Anand Rathi Wealth Limited.

Angel One

Angel One stock registered its first gain in the last seven sessions, ending the day higher by 9.35% at ₹2,663 apiece on the NSE today. The brokerage's shares opened higher and gained further momentum during the mid-session. The stock hit a high of ₹2,685 during the day before surrendering some of the gains.

ICICI Securities

Shares of ICICI Securities Ltd ended 1.66% lower at ₹739.2 apiece on the NSE. The stock opened on a positive note but could not hold onto the gains and slumped to a low of ₹733 intraday.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services

Motilal Oswal Financial Services snapped its five-day losing streak on Thursday, climbing 5.15% to close at ₹1,473 apiece on the NSE. After a gap-down opening, the stock gained momentum in intraday trade and hit a high of ₹1,509 before paring some gains.

Anand Rathi Wealth Limited

Anand Rathi Wealth shares closed 2.45% lower at ₹3,729 apiece, extending the losing streak for the sixth straight day on the NSE. The stock opened significantly lower at ₹3,736.85 and declined further to reach the day's low of ₹3,700.

SMC Global Securities Limited

SMC Global Securities shares rose by 3.03% to close at ₹115.5 apiece on the NSE. The brokerage's shares opened lower but gained strength towards the late morning trade. The stock hit the day's high of ₹118.65 apiece.

5Paisa Capital Ltd

5Paisa Capital shares closed 3.16% higher at ₹487.40, snapping a three-day losing run on the NSE. The stock reached its day's high of ₹494.45 before retracing some gains later.

IIFL Securities Ltd

IIFL Securities shares jumped 4.33% to close at ₹120.45 apiece on the NSE. The shares broke their three-session losing streak. Starting flat, the stock rebounded to reach a day's peak of ₹125.

Dolat Algotech Ltd

Dolat Algotech shares surged by 10.06% to settle the day at ₹67.8 apiece on the NSE. The stock started tepidly today but gained strength as trading progressed, reaching the day's high of ₹68.8. In the previous four sessions, the stock had incurred losses.

Geojit Financial Services Ltd

Shares of Geojit Financial Services Ltd advanced 6.2% to close at ₹65.95 apiece on the NSE, breaking its three-day losing streak. Intraday, the brokerage's shares swung between a high of ₹66.6 and a low of ₹61.45 apiece.

Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd

Shares of Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd stock surged 5.26% to close at ₹4,009.9 apiece on the NSE. Today's rally ensured that the stock avoided a sixth straight session of loss. Intraday, its shares hit a high of ₹4,009.95.
