Gramin dak sevaks are responsible for delivering mail and other postal services to people in rural areas.

To improve service conditions and remove stagnation in service of gramin dak sevaks, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday, March 15, unveiled a financial upgradation scheme.

The scheme will provide financial benefits to more than 2.56 lakh gramin dak sevaks employed by India Post, the state-run postal network operator.

Key features of Gramin Dak Sevaks (Grant of Financial Upgradation) Scheme 2024

  • Gramin dak sevaks are eligible for financial upgrades of ₹4,320, ₹5,520 and ₹7,200 per annum after completing 12, 24, and 36 years of service, respectively.
  • This is in addition to the remuneration provided to them as a time-related continuity allowance (TRCA).

"The gramin dak sevaks serve as the backbone of the Department of Posts in rural areas and play a vital role in delivering postal and financial services to the remotest part of our nation," the government said.

Gramin dak sevaks are responsible for delivering mail and other postal services to people in rural areas. They are also involved in different functions such as the sale of stamps and stationery. Their role also includes assisting postmasters and sub-postmasters in managing the smooth functioning of post offices.
