Apple is expected to create over 5,00,000 employment opportunities in India over the next three years through its vendors, government sources told news agency PTI.

Currently, Apple's suppliers and vendors employ 1,50,000 people in the country. Tata Electronics, which operates two Apple plants, is the largest job creator.

"Apple is accelerating hiring in India. At a conservative estimate, it is going to employ five lakh people in the next three years through its vendors and components suppliers," a senior government officer told PTI.

1 in 7 iPhones now made in India

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is now manufacturing one in every seven iPhones in India as the Cupertino-based company is looking to diversify beyond China.

The report stated that Foxconn Technology Group produced nearly 67% of iPhones in India, while Pegatron Corp assembled 17%. The remaining iPhones were made at Tata-owned Wistron Corp.

In February, the tech giant had announced that its India business reported the highest revenue in Q3 FY2024 due to record iPhone sales and better adoption of its products by enterprises.

"Emerging markets have been a very key area of strength for us. If you look at it, India grew in revenue terms, reporting strong double digits in the December quarter, and hit a quarter revenue record," Apple CEO Tim Cook had said as the firm's revenue from India stood at $6 billion.
