PM Modi inaugurates India Energy Week 2024 in Goa, highlights energy growth story

NEW DELHI, Feb 6 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India Energy Week 2024 in Goa today, emphasising the importance of a robust energy sector for national progress. The event brings in experts and stakeholders from across the world to accelerate India's energy transition goals.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi highlighted India's remarkable economic growth, with the country becoming the world's fastest-growing economy. He underscored India's important position as a major consumer of energy, oil, and LPG, along with its rising demand for electric vehicles.

PM Modi outlined India's plans to meet its growing energy demands, including substantial investments in infrastructure and efforts to increase the share of gas in the energy mix. He also stressed the importance of environmentally conscious energy sources and announced initiatives to promote self-reliance in solar energy.

The Prime Minister discussed India's progress in the biofuel sector, noting significant increases in ethanol blending and efforts to transform rural economies through waste-to-wealth management. He reiterated India's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

PM Modi emphasised India's potential in renewable energy, particularly solar energy, highlighting the country's rapid growth in solar capacity. He announced a major mission to install solar rooftop panels in one crore homes, aiming to make families self-reliant in energy and facilitate excess electricity delivery to the grid.

Addressing global cooperation in the energy sector, PM Modi described the India Energy Week event as a reflection of India's commitment to collaboration and knowledge sharing. He urged stakeholders to learn from each other and explore sustainable energy development opportunities together.
