India's mineral production grows 5.1 per cent in December

India's mineral production for December 2023 increased by 5.1% compared to the year-ago period, the government said on Thursday.
The cumulative growth for the period April-December 2023-2024 over the corresponding period of the previous year is 8.5%, the Ministry of Mines said.
In December, the production of coal stood at 929 lakh tonnes while that of lignite at 40 lakh tonnes, iron ore at 255 lakh tonnes and limestone at 372 lakh tonnes.
As per the provisional statistics of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), natural gas utilisation was reported at 3,078 million cubic metres, and petroleum (crude) production was at 25 lakh tonnes. Among precious metals, gold production was recorded at 122 kg.
Minerals showing positive growth
Magnesite (83.7%), lead conc (16.5%), lignite (14.6%), copper conc (13.7%), limestone (12.5%), coal (10.8%), zinc conc (7.8%), bauxite (6.6%) and natural gas (utilised) (6.6%), manganese ore (4.0%) and iron ore (1.3%) are the minerals that showed positive growth in December 2023.
Minerals showing negative growth
The production of petroleum (crude) (-1.0%), gold (-29.9%), chromite (-30.8%), phosphorite (-31.2%) and diamond (-74.4%) saw a decline.
