The Delhi government, on Monday, unveiled the state budget for the financial year 2024-25, with a total outlay of ₹76,000 crore. In her maiden budget speech, Delhi finance minister Atishi announced a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 for women aged 18 and above. She also allocated ₹16,396 crore to the education sector.
Delhi Budget 2024: Key highlights
- The Delhi government has allocated ₹9,800 crore for schemes in the housing and urban development sector in the financial year 2024-25, with ₹902 crore allocated for unauthorised colonies, ₹400 crore for the MLALAD (Member of Legislative Assembly Local Area Development) scheme and ₹275 crore for Mukhya Mantri Sadak Punarnirman Yojana and Mukhya Mantri Street Light scheme.
- The Delhi government announced financial assistance of ₹1,000 for every woman above the age of 18 years under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana.
- The government increased its budget outlay for civic bodies to ₹8,423 crore for the FY 2024-25, up from ₹8,241 crore in 2023-24.
- ₹16,396 crore was allocated for the education sector, including ₹1,213 crore for higher and technical education.
- An allocation of ₹8,685 crore has been made for the health sector, with ₹6,215 crore for hospitals, ₹212 crore for mohalla clinics, ₹658 crore for free medicines, ₹400 crore for new infrastructure, ₹80 crore for Delhi Arogya Kosh, ₹194 crore for CATS Ambulance and ₹916 crore for miscellaneous activities.
- An allocation of ₹7,195 crore has been made for the Delhi Jal Board.
- Public transport has been allocated ₹5,702 crore, with ₹510 crore for electric buses, ₹340 crore for pink tickets and ₹500 crore for Delhi Metro.
- Similarly, ₹6,216 crore has been allocated for various schemes under the social welfare department, women and child development department, and SC/ST/OBC welfare department.
- Delhi finance minister Atishi said the national capital will have over 10,000 buses by 2025.
