Stock Market Highlights: Markets close in green, NIFTY50 above 22,100, SENSEX gains around 600 points

The BANK NIFTY (-0.87%) index closed in green. Buy sentiment for ICICI Bank and Axis Bank and HDFC Bank pulled the index.

The NIFTY Midcap 100 index (-0.61%) closed lower today. NIFTY Smallcap 100 Index (-0.10%) closed slightly down on Friday.

Benchmark Indices – NIFTY50 (-0.85%) and SENSEX (-0.81%) – open in red. NIFTY50 trades at 21,809.50 level. Out of the NIFTY50 space, 47 stocks are declining. BPCL, HDFC Life and Bajaj Auto are among top losers.

The NIFTY50 closed below the doji candle on 18 April and surrendered the 50-DMA on a closing basis, indicating further weakness ahead. Sentiment may remain weak as markets react to fourth-quarter results from IT giant Infosys. The US-listed company's ADR fell more than 2%, recovering from a 7% drop.

Indian equities are looking at a gap down start, as indicated by the GIFT NIFTY (-0.9%). Asian markets are also trading lower. The Nikkei 225 is down 2.8% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index is down 1%.
