Rana Sugars Limited business operations

Rana Sugars Limited (RSL) is one of the most diversified sugar companies in the country. It is also a market leader in the Punjab Medium Liquor (PML) sector. The company has a portfolio of well-established liquor brands and is a preferred bottler for several leading liquor brands. RSL manufactures various sugar categories, including double-refined white sulphurless sugar, plantation white sugar and raw sugar. It is also involved in business activities related to distillery, power generation and white crystal sugar.

RSL operates four manufacturing facilities across Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. One of these facilities, located in Lalru, Punjab, was established in 1996 with an initial capacity of 25,000 spindles. This capacity was later expanded to 35,000 spindles in 2000. The plant currently has a spindle capacity of 72,768. Another facility, situated in Baba Bakala, Punjab, operates as a private factory. RSL has a plant in Buttar Seviyan which is the first in India to produce sugar from sugar beet. The company again achieved the highest-ever sugar beet crushing of 37.12 lakh quintals with a total sugar beet and cane crushing of 227.51 lakh quintals in FY23.

Rana Sugars Limited operates three manufacturing facilities with a collective cane-crushing capacity of 20,500 tonnes per day. The company's sugar manufacturing units are strategically located in geographically diverse regions, including the Moradabad and Rampur districts of Uttar Pradesh, and the Amritsar district of Punjab. All sugar units of the company are certified by FSSAI, ensuring the supply of high-quality crystal sugar to its customers.

In the distillery segment, Rana Sugars has a total distillation capacity of 325 kilo litres per day (KLPD). The company uses B-heavy molasses for ethanol production to reduce reliance on crystal sugar. The distillery plant in Punjab is capable of producing extra neutral alcohol (ENA). It can also operate using molasses, sugarcane juice, syrup and grains.

In the power division, the company opted to sell the bagasse instead of utilising it for power generation in the case of U.P. units during FY23.

In 2014, Rana Sugars signed joint venture agreements with Sindicatum Captive Energy Singapore Private Limited. The aim was to operate, control and make investments in Rana Energy Limited and Rana Green Power Limited.
