History of Hindustan Unilever Limited
The company was first established in India as Hindustan Vanaspati Manufacturing Co. Later merged with constituent groups in 1956 and was renamed as Hindustan Lever Limited. In June 2007, the company was renamed again as Hindustan Unilever Limited.

- 1956: Amalgamation With Hindustan Vanaspati Manufacturing Co. Ltd & United Traders Ltd.
The Hindustan Vanaspatu Manufacturing Co. Ltd and United Traders merged with the Lever Brothers (India) Limited to form Hindustan Lever Limited.
- 1972-84 Acquisition of Lipton and Brooke Bond
In 1972, Hindustan Lever acquired Liptop, a well-known tea brand, and in 1977 established Lipton Tea (Indian) Ltd, which helped the company enter the beverage market. In 1984, the company acquired another tea brand named Brooke Bond.
- 1986-1996: Personal Care Products
Hindustan Lever Ltd continued to expand and entered the personal care product market by acquiring Pond (India) Ltd. Later in 1993, HUL merged with the Tata Oil Mills Company (TOMCO) and expanded its personal care product portfolio.
- 1992-1998
HUL entered into a 50:50 joint venture with the US-based Kimberly-Clark Corporation, leading to the establishment of Kimberly-Clark Lever Ltd. In 1994, HUL acquired Kissan, which was one of the leading brands in the food sector and later acquired the Lakme brand in 1996.
