Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) is a leading player in the renewable energy sector. The Ahmedabad-headquartered company is owned by the Adani Group. Founded in 2015 by Gautam Adani, AGEL runs the Kamuthi Solar Power Project, one of the world's largest solar photovoltaic plants.
Adani Green Energy Limited was incorporated on January 23, 2016. In its early stages, AGEL collaborated with Inox Wind to develop a 20 MW wind power project in Lahori, Madhya Pradesh. AGEL also acquired Inox Wind's 50 MW wind power project in Kutch.
During 2015–2016, AGEL's subsidiary, Adani Renewable Energy Park Limited, entered into a joint venture agreement with the Government of Rajasthan. In 2017, AGEL assumed full control of Adani Enterprises’ entire solar energy portfolio. AGEL's current project portfolio is 20,434 MW.

In March 2018, AGEL acquired 49% equity shares of Kodangal Solar Parks Private Limited, transforming it into a joint venture. In 2019, AGEL acquired the remaining 51% equity shares in the company as well.
During mid-2019, Adani Green Energy Limited purchased Essel Group's solar power portfolio, totalling 205MW across Punjab, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, for around $185 million (₹1,300 crore). AGEL also agreed to acquire the remaining 480 MW solar energy portfolio from Essel Group.
Early in 2020, Total S.A., a French energy company, signed a binding agreement to invest $510 million, securing a 20% stake in AGEL. In May 2021, AGEL completed the acquisition of SB Energy Holdings Limited, backed by SoftBank Group Corp, for a total of $3.5 billion.
The consolidated revenue of the company for FY 2022-23 stood at ₹7,792 crore, recording a strong 51.8% year-on-year growth compared to ₹5,133 crore in FY 2021-22. The firm reported a profit of ₹914 crore in FY23 as against ₹488 crore in FY22. The total income of the company in FY23 stood at ₹8,633 crore, up 35.39% year-on-year compared to ₹5,577 crore in FY22. Its EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) stood at ₹4,278 crore in FY23 as against ₹3,169 crore in the previous fiscal. The company made a total capital expenditure of ₹4,355 crore in FY23. Its earnings per share (EPS) increased to ₹5.41 in FY23 from ₹2.41 in the last financial year.
