Indraprasth Gas Limited (IGL) is a natural gas distribution company that supplies natural gas for cooking and vehicle fuel. The company is based in Delhi NCR and was established in 1998 as a joint venture between GAIL, Bharat Petroleum and the Government of Delhi.
In 2003, Indraprasth launched its IPO and went public, raising ₹193 crore by selling 40 alkh equity shares with an issue price of ₹48 per share. On December 26, 2003, the company was listed on the Indian stock exchanges, BSE and NSE.
History of Indraprastha Gas Limited
Indraprastha Gas Limited was founded in 1998 to manage and operate the Delhi City Gas Distribution Project and build a network of gas distribution pipelines in the city. The company was established as a joint venture between GAIL, Bharat Petroleum and the Government of Delhi to implement the city gas distribution network and went public in 2003.

- Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)
This is the largest business segment of the company, which accounts for around 74% of the company’s sales volume. The segment involves supplying natural gas as fuel to automobiles such as public transport, commercial fleets and personal vehicles within the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) and other permitted areas.
This segment accounts for the remaining 26% ofthe company’s sales volume and caters to diverse customer segments. It supplies gas to households for cooking and non-cooking purposes. It also provides gas to commercial customers such as hotels, restaurants, malls, and hospitals. The company also serves industrial clients by supplying regassified Liquefied Natural Gas (R-LNG) to manufacturing and industrial companies.

This company is a joint venture between Indraprastha Gas Limited and its promoter companies, GAIL Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). The company manages City Gas Distribution networks in Kanpur, Bareilly, Unnao and Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.
- Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL)
This company is jointly owned by Indraprastha Gas Limited, GAIL Limited, BPCL and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. The company oversees the gas distribution in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Nashik and other areas.

The company is focused on expanding its PNG and CNG distribution following the supply distributions in West Asia. Indraprastha Gas Limited aims for a run-rate of 3,000 new household and commercial connections per day.
The company is also setting up new pipeline networks to cater to diverse customer segments.
The company has allocated around ₹500 crore towards diverse projects, out of which a significant sum is being invested in building 19 CBG plants in four states. Indraprastha Gas Limited is targeting 10% CBG blending in its natural gas supply.
The company is partnering with MASAH Construction to pre-qualify for developing natural gas distribution networks in Saudi Arabia.
