Dwarikesh Sugar Industries Ltd is a Uttar Pradesh-based diversified industrial group engaged in the manufacturing of sugar as well as allied products. The company has three manufacturing facilities equipped with a combined capacity of 21,500 tonnes of sugar per day. Two of its plants are located in Najibabad and Afzalgarh in Bijnor district, and one is located in Bareilly district.
Dwarikesh Sugar Industries Ltd was originally incorporated as Dwarka Sugar Ltd on November 1, 1993, in Mumbai. The company's name was changed to Dwarikesh Sugar Industries Ltd on April 18, 1994.
In 1995, the company commissioned its first sugar plant in the village Bundki (Najibabad) of Uttar Pradesh. In 2004, it commissioned its second plant in the village of Afzalgarh, while the third plant was commissioned in the village Bhagwanpur Phulwa in Faridpur, Bareilly, in 2007.
The shares of Dwarikesh Sugar Industries were listed on both BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) on December 31, 2004. As of January 2, 2024, the company’s market capitalisation stood at ₹1,653 crore. Dwarikesh Sugar share price has shot up by over 180% in the last three years.
The company’s operations can be broadly divided into three segments – sugar, cogeneration and distillery.
Sugar: The sugar business accounted for 71% of the revenue in FY23. Dwarikesh Sugar has a combined cane-crushing capacity of 21,500 tonnes per day as of March 31, 2023.
The company crushed 382.13 lakh quintals of cane in 2022-23 compared to 373.92 lakh quintals of cane in the previous year. This resulted in total sugar production of 32.98 lakh quintals in FY23, generating sugar revenue of ₹2,080 crore.
Distillery: The distillery business made up 18% of Dwarikesh Sugar’s overall revenue in FY23. The company commissioned a 175 kilo litres per day distillery, dedicated to ethanol manufacturing, at its Bareilly plant in FY23. Besides that, Dwarikesh Sugar operates a distillery at its Bijnor plant. Besides industrial alcohol, it has also started manufacturing sanitizer from its product spirit.
Power: The power segment contributed 11% to Dwarikesh Sugar’s revenue in FY23. The company ventured into cogeneration when it commissioned a 6 MW power plant in 1995 using the byproduct bagasse. In 2002, the company grew this capacity to 9 MW and the cumulative cogeneration capacity was 96 megawatts as of March 31, 2023. The company is supplying power (the quantum that remains after captive consumption) to the Uttar Pradesh state grid.
