Ambuja Cements Limited is an Indian cement producer that supplies cement and clinker to both domestic and international markets. The company was formerly known as Gujarat Ambuja Cement Limited and was established in 1981.
Ambuja Cements Limited launched its IPO and went public in 1993, which got oversubscribed by 21.7 times. The company is now listed on both NSE and BSE.
Amuja Cemnets Limited was established in 1981 as Gujarat Ambuja Cements Limited by Narotam S. Sekhsaria and Suresh Kumar Neotia. The company began production in 1986 at Ambujanagar, Gujarat and later expanded into northern India by setting up plants in Darlaghat, Himachal Pradesh.
In 2006, the company entered into a strategic partnership with Holcim, which was the second-largest manufacturer in the world. In the following years, Holcim bought 14.8% promoters' stake in the company.
Between 2010 and 2022, Holcim held around 61.62% controlling stake in Amuja Cemnets Limited. In April 2022, Holcim decided to exit the Indian market and sell its stakes in Ambuja Cements Limited and ACC, a subsidiary of Ambuja Cements Limited. In May 2022, Adani Group acquired Holcim’s stake in the Amubja Cements Limited and ACC.
