JSW Energy Limited is one of India’s leading private-sector independent power producers and is a subsidiary of JSW Group. The company and its subsidiaries are engaged in power generation. The company was initially founded as a joint venture by Sajjan Jindal in 1994 between JSW Steel Limited and a Belgian company called Tractebel S.A. The company was founded as Jindal Tractebel Power Company before being renamed as JSW Energy Limited on December 7 2005.
JSW Energy Limited launched its IPO and went public in December 2009, and raised around ₹2,700 crores with a face value of ₹10 per share. The shares were issued at ₹100 per share and listed on both the stock exchanges, NSE and BSE, categorised as a mid-cap company.
History of JSW Energy Limited
JSW Energy Limited was initially incorporated in 1994 as Jindal Tracebel Power Company Limited. The company started as a joint venture between JSW Steel Limited and Tractebel S.A., a Belgian utility company. In 2000, the company started its operations with a commission of two 130 MW units at Torangaully in Karnataka to supply power to neighbouring steel plants.
In 2001, Tracebel S.A exited the venture and its stakes were taken over by ICICI, IDBI and JSW Group companies. In the following year, the company was renamed as Jindal Thermal Power Company Limited. In December 2005, the company was renamed again to JSW Energy Limited.
