PNB Housing Finance Limited (PNB Housing) deals in lending home loans and related financial products. The company, incorporated in 1988, offers retail and corporate loans. Government-owned Punjab National Bank is the promoter of the company and holds 32.57% of the share capital. The company was initially incorporated as a subsidiary of the Punjab National Bank.
Punjab National Bank sold 26% of its stake in the company in 2006 to Destimoney Enterprises Private Limited (DEPL). A year after this major change of ownership in the company, PNB Housing Finance introduced the business process re-engineering project Kshitij. In 2012, DEPL increased its shareholding in the company to 49% according to the conversion of Compulsory Convertible Debentures (CCDs) issued in 2009. The company crossed ₹1,000 crore retail deposit milestone.
The company rolled out a new brand image with a robust and scalable target operating model in 2013. PNB Housing's asset under management (AUM) crossed the milestone of ₹10,000 crore in 2014
In 2015, DEPL was acquired by Quality Investment Holdings (QIH) of the Carlyle Group. PNB Housing Finance went public in 2016 bringing its initial public offer to raise ₹3000 through listing on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE.
The company incorporated its subsidiary PHFL Home Loans & Services in 2017. PNB Housing Finance's AUM crossed the ₹50,000 mark.
In 2018, the company's board of directors approved the raising of funds through external commercial borrowing. PNB Housing Finance informed the stock exchanges that it has received communication from its promoters to initiate the process for the sale of a minimum 51% stake in the company to potential acquirers.
In FY 2019, the company borrowed ₹30,848 crore through bank term loans, National Housing Bank refinance, external commercial borrowings and public deposits. The company set up Pehel Foundation as its dedicated company social responsibility (CSR) vehicle crossed ₹15,000-crore mark.
PNB Housing became the first housing finance company to sign a funding of $75 million via external commercial borrowings from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
During FY 2022, the company opened 24 new branches with a focus on tier II and tier III cities to expand Unnati operations.
By the end of FY 2023, PNB Housing’s physical network included 189 branches and outreaches. The Company also had 22 underwriting hubs for credit decision-making. The company’s AUM as of March 31, 2022, was ₹66,617 crore.
