Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India (MMTC) Limited is India's largest public sector international trading body. Established in 1963, it is headquartered in Delhi. It operates under the administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

Known as the largest non-oil importer in the country, MMTC engages in many trade activities as well, utilising contemporary tools such as third country trade, joint ventures and link deals in the international commerce domain.

MMTC also engages in the trade of engineering products and has established joint ventures in steel retailing, free trade warehousing and commodity exchanges. Its extensive trade operations extend across Asia, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and USA. The company initiated its operations on October 1, 1963, the same year of its incorporation.

MMTC Limited marked its entry into the European market in 1994 by exporting one lakh tonnes of iron ore to Slovakia and Romania. The company began importing gold and silver in 1994 under special import licenses for distribution in the domestic market. In 1994, MMTC also incorporated its wholly-owned subsidiary, MMTC Transnational Pte Ltd (MTPL), based in Singapore and under the company's control.

Over time, MTPL has strengthened and expanded its presence in diverse business sectors including minerals, metals, steel, pig iron, fertiliser and fertiliser raw materials, coal and coke, ferroalloys and industrial raw materials. Third-country trading is another area where MTPL consistently capitalises on new business opportunities.

Business operations

MMTC Limited is one of India's foremost contributors to foreign exchange. As the largest international trading company in India, it holds the distinction of being the first public sector enterprise granted the prestigious "five-star export house" status by the Government of India.

The company's network includes a wholly-owned international subsidiary in Singapore and spans across Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania and the Americas. In addition to international trade, MMTC is also actively involved in various sectors, including metals, fertilisers, agro products, precious metals, minerals, ores and hydrocarbons.

MMTC Limited's operations are strategically distributed across various locations, both at the national and international levels. The company runs 11 offices in India and internationally, it has one office. MMTC caters to a significant number of locations. At the national level, MMTC operates in 10 different states. On the international front, MMTC extends its market presence to Singapore.

The company has several joint ventures including Neelanchal Ispat Nigam Limited, MMTC PAMP India Private Limited, TM Mining Company Limited, SICAL Iron Ore Terminal Limited and Free Trade Warehousing Private Limited. These collaborations have been established through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) route.

– MMTC Limited's revenue from operations for FY23 stood at ₹3,528.18 crore, down by 70% compared to ₹11,796.24 crore in FY22. – The net profit after tax for FY23 was ₹1,562.27 crore compared to ₹ -258.22 crore during the previous year. – The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at ₹10.42 in FY23 compared to ₹ -1.72 in the previous financial year.
