Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) is a diversified multinational company. The flagship company of Adani Group focuses predominantly on coal and iron ore mining and trading. Its subsidiaries are engaged in airport operations, infrastructure development, data centre business and solar power. Founded in March 1993 by Gautam Adani, the company has ventured into defence, aerospace, metro rail infrastructure, oil exploration, petrochemicals and media sectors over the years.
Adani Enterprises launched its initial public offering in September 1994 and subsequently got listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE. In 2001, the company started its city gas distribution business, and by 2005 became a mine developer and operator after bagging the first contract in the sector.
In the following years, Adani Enterprises diversified into other sectors like solar PV panel manufacturing, consumer goods, port operations, logistics, transport, coal and infrastructure. It owns and operates 22 plants, including 10 crushing units and 18 refineries, across India.
In August 2006, Adani Exports Ltd was renamed as Adani Enterprises Ltd. The Adani Group focused on primary businesses like power, oil and gas, real estate, agro product and mining under its flagship company.
The company ventured into the airports business in 2020 with a portfolio of six airports. By 2022, it completed the acquisition of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports. In 2021, Adani Enterprises bagged India's largest expressway project, a ₹1,838 crore highway project from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Kerala. In 2023, Adani Enterprises saw the commissioning of the first data centre in Chennai and the acquisition of NDTV by the media arm AMG Media.
Adani Enterprises manages its diversified business through its subsidiaries which include Adani Agri Fresh, Adani Airport Holdings, Adani Cement, AdaniConneX, Adani Defence & Aerospace, Adani Digital Labs, Adani Mining, Adani New Industries, Adani Road Transport, Adani Shipping, Adani Solar, Adani Water, Adani Welspun Exploration, Adani Wilmar, AMG Media Networks and Kutch Copper.
In 2015, Adani Enterprises underwent a demerger, separating former subsidiaries like Adani Ports & SEZ, Adani Power, and Adani Transmission. In 2018, Adani Green Energy and Adani Gas were also demerged from the company. In 2021, Adani Enterprises secured a 20% stake in the online travel firm Cleartrip
