Venky’s India Limited, formerly known as Venkateshwara Hatcheries Limited, was founded by BV Rao. He established the Venkateshwara Hatcheries in Pune in 1971. The company now has a presence all across the world. As of March 31, 2023, Venky’s has 5,282 employees.
With an exclusive mixture of know-how, understanding and strategic collaborations, Venky’s has diversified its activities to include specific pathogen-free (SPF) eggs, chicken and eggs processing, broiler and layer breeding, genetic research feed supplements and vaccine production.
Venky’s India was registered as a private limited company in 1976. It was converted into a public limited in December 1988. The company made several strides during this phase and set up a 100% export-oriented unit in Pune. The capacity of this unit was 30,000 broiler breeders. This unit was commissioned in June 1992.
The company’s activities primarily include the production of poultry and eggs and manufacturing animal food. As a secondary activity, the company has engaged itself in research and development of medicines and pharmaceuticals.
Venky’s India manufactures medicines for chicken which caters to both internal consumption as well as the poultry industry throughout. The company with vast experience in the poultry industry has set the value proposition by producing diversified and value-based products.
The company’s strong R&D arm has given it the status of a leader in the animal health market.
When it comes to segment-wise performance, poultry and poultry products was the most significant business segment of Venky’s. In FY23, the turnover from poultry and poultry products was ₹1,751.64 crore as compared to ₹1,711.56 crore in FY22.
Venky’s manufacturing plant for animal health products is situated in Pune. The sales in FY23 was ₹290.02 crore.
The company is also involved in the processing of oilseed which is a significant segment of its business. The sales turnover from the oilseed segment was ₹2,307.87 crore as compared to ₹2,567.81 crore in the previous year.
Venky’s India operates their sales channel through different wholesalers and distributors and also through prominent food chain brands such as KFC, McDonald’s, Domino’s and Pizza Hut to name a few. Besides, the company has its own Venky’s Xprs, the retail food chain venture, which acts as a key channel partner.
As on March 31, 2023, the Promoters hold 56.11% shares in the company whereas FIIs and Public holds 0.95% and 42.96% shares respectively The market capitalisation of Venky’s India Limited stood over ₹2,700 crores as of January 2, 2024.
