Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) is a leading engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services provider. The company, formerly known as Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd, is a major player in the EPC segment with over three decades of experience.

KPIL, headquartered in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, is engaged in the business verticals of power transmission and distribution, buildings and factories, water supply and irrigation, highways, airports, oil and gas pipelines, urban mobility (flyovers and metro) and railways.

The company is part of the Kalpataru Group, which was established in 1969. KPIL Non-Executive Chairman and Promoter Mofatraj P Munot founded the group. Munot has an experience of more than five decades in real estate and property development, EPC and civil contracting, and has been instrumental in the success of the group. He also serves as Non-Executive Chairman of group’s real estate vertical Kalpataru Ltd.

The Kalpataru Group has business interests in Power, Power Generation, Real Estate, Agri Logistics and EPC verticals. The group companies include real estate arm Kalpataru Limited.

Kalpataru Projects International Ltd (KPIL) has a global footprint and it is executing more than 250 projects in over 30 countries. It is present in SAARC, Africa, the Middle East, CIS countries, Asia-Pacific, America and Europe. The company has completed projects worth $14 billion related to water, railways, urban infra, T&D, B&F and oil & gas industries globally. To boost its global presence in South America and Europe, the company recently acquired LinjemontageiGrastorp AB (Sweden) and Fasttel Engenharia Ltd (Brazil).

KPIL has maintained a strong order book of $5.6 billion as of March 31, 2023, accompanied by consolidated revenue of $2 billion. The company saw order inflows of ₹25,241 crore in 2022-23, taking the total order book close to ₹45,918 crore.

Power Transmission and Distribution

KPIL is a leading player in the power transmission and distribution and sub-stations segment. The company provides end-to-end solutions like in-house designs, testing, procurement, installation and commissioning.

KPIL has a capacity to produce more than 2,40,000 tonnes per annum of transmission towers at its manufacturing plants in India.

The company in 2022-23 was selected as a preferred EPC partner by a power distribution company in Australia for commissioning a large-size project for renewable energy integration.

Buildings and Factories

KPIL provides engineering and design, procurement and construction services to real estate and manufacturing clients. It has delivered factory projects in textile, automotive, Government infrastructure projects, FMCG, power, industrial projects and building projects.

The B&F business achieved a 25% revenue growth in FY2022-23 on the back of strong execution and a robust order book. In FY23, its order inflow reached ₹3,755 crore. The company looks to strengthen its presence in data centres, institutional buildings, and processing plants.

Water Business

KPIL has capabilities to commission water transmission, treatment and distribution projects. It has expertise in designing and building water intake, storage, supply, treatment and operation & maintenance projects. Its scope of services includes safe drinking water supply and distribution, wastewater treatment and reuse, irrigation and water to power plants.

It has laid water pipelines of more than 12,000 km, provided water connection of more than 140,000 and implemented more than 500MLD of water treatment projects.

Railways

KPIL, as an EPC contractor, caters to turnkey solutions for railway lines, high speed rail and metro rail. The company offers services under its Railway subsidiary. The Railways business reported a 4% growth in FY23 to ₹1,652 crore.

Oil & Gas

The company undertakes projects for across-country pipelines, terminals and gas stations for the oil and gas sector. It has built more than 4,000 km pipelines and over 250 intermediate stations like Terminals. The oil & gas business had revenues of ₹985 crore in FY23.

Urban Infrastructure, Biomass and Asset creation

KPIL provides services for design and construction of highways, bridges and flyovers, transit terminals and hubs, and metro rail corridors stations. It has expertise in building Metro Rail Underground Structures and High Speed Rail Structures. The company also implements projects to generate rural employment and contribute to a cleaner environment by converting waste materials into clean energy.

Financial Highlights

The company reported a consolidated revenue growth of 11% year-on-year to ₹16,361 crore in FY23 as against ₹14,777 crore in FY22. Its EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) stood at ₹1,278 crore in FY23 implying 18% YoY growth over ₹1,080 crore in FY22. The consolidated EBITDA margin stood at 9.1% in FY23. Its profit after tax dropped to ₹435 crore in FY23 as against ₹535 crore in FY22. The company’s earnings per share (EPS) stood at ₹32.7 in FY23 compared to ₹21.6 in FY22.
