Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited (JPVL), earlier known as Jaiprakash Hydro Power (JHPL), is a leading player in the energy sector. A part of Jaypee Group, the company was founded on December 21, 1994.

The company was incorporated to develop a 300 MW Baspa Stage-II hydroelectric power project in Himachal Pradesh. The company was granted commencement of operation certificate in January 1995. The Baspa Stage-II hydropower project was commissioned in June 2003 and started power generation.

The company has a strong portfolio of projects in both hydropower and thermal power segments. JP Power is also engaged in coal mining and cement grinding businesses. Its 2-MTPA Jaypee Nigrie cement grinding unit at Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh launched commercial operations in June 2015.

The company also operates a 1980 MW super critical technology boiler based thermal power project in Bara, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. The sales and purchase agreement (SPA) for the project was executed in July 2009. The company commissioned a 214 km power transmission project in April 2012 under its wholly-owned subsidiary, Jaypee Powergrid Limited, to evacuate power from the 1000 MW Karcham-Wangtoo Project. JPVL’s 214-kilometre-long extra high voltage Karcham-Wangtoo Project in Himachal Pradesh is meant to evacuate power from the Karcham-Wangtoo hydropower plant. Under this project, power is distributed to states such as Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited owns several hydroelectric power projects. Three such hydroelectric power projects are the 400MW Vishnuprayag Hydroelectric Project in Uttarakhand, the 1000MW Karcham-Wangtoo Project and the 300MW Baspa-II Hydroelectric Project in Himachal Pradesh.

The company also operates the Jaypee Nigrie Super Thermal Power Project in Madhya Pradesh.

To strengthen its position in Madhya Pradesh, the company also acquired Sangam Power Generation business Limited and Bina Power Supply Company Limited.

JPVL, through its subsidiary Jaypee Arunachal Power Limited, is working on two projects in Arunachal Pradesh. These projects include 500 MW Hirong and 2700 MW Lower Siang power projects.

The company has also entered into an agreement with the Meghalaya government for the 450 MW Kynshi Stage II and 270 MW Umngot hydro power projects.

The company’s consolidated revenue in FY23 stood at ₹5,922 crore, up 21.87% compared to ₹4,859 crore in the previous financial year. Net profit for FY23 dropped to ₹55 crore compared to ₹107 crore reported in FY22. In FY23 the power segment contributed ₹4,902 crore revenue compared to ₹3,876 crore in FY22. The revenue from coal business stood at ₹583.81 crore in FY23 compared to ₹483.28 crore in FY22.
