The company is a subsidiary of IHH Healthcare Berhad Company. It is a for-profit hospital chain and has its headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana. The first ever Fortis Hospital was established in Mohali, Punjab. Fortis provides a wide range of consolidated healthcare services including clinical care, quaternary care along with a full spectrum of ancillary services.

In its earlier years, the chain had also purchased the Escorts Group’s healthcare branch which helped it increase its strength in different parts of the country.
The company’s diagnostic service arm was renamed as Agilus Diagnostics Limited with effect from May 31, 2023. Agilus has presence in 27 states and Union Territories across India. It also has centres in Nepal, outside India.
