IFCI Ltd, previously known as Industrial Finance Corporation of India, is a public sector company and one of the oldest development financial institutions in India. It provides short, medium and long-term loans to businesses for expansion, technology upgrades, R&D expenses and other financial needs.
IFCI Ltd also actively engaged in project finance, advisory services and other financial solutions to businesses across sectors.
The company also acts as the nodal agency responsible for overseeing loans from the Sugar Development Fund (SDF) allocated to projects in the private sector. This is aimed at modernisation, expansion, cogeneration of power and production of alcohol/ethanol.

The company was registered as a non-banking financial company (NBFC) with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 1998. However, it was exempted from most regulatory guidelines applicable to non-banking financial companies due to its status as a financial institution.
The company's name was changed from The Industrial Finance Corporation of India Ltd to IFCI Ltd in 1999. In the fiscal year 1999-2000, the wholly-owned subsidiaries of the company, IFCI Investors Services Ltd and IFCI Custodial Services Ltd, were amalgamated with another wholly-owned subsidiary company, IFCI Financial Services Ltd.
Today, IFCI operates as a Government of India-backed NBFC adapting to reforms and restructuring efforts.

Corporate and Project Finance: IFCI Ltd provides long-term loans and structured finance to infrastructure, power, and manufacturing companies.
MSME Lending: The company supports MSMEs through customised credit solutions, mostly aligned with government-backed development initiatives.
Advisory Services: The company offers financial advisory, project appraisal and restructuring support to corporates and public sector companies.

IFCI oversees six subsidiaries: Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited, IFCI Venture Capital Fund Limited, IFCI Factors Limited, IFCI Infrastructure Development Limited, IFCI Financial Services Limited and Madhya Pradesh Consultancy Organisation Limited (MPCON).
IFCI Venture Capital Funds Limited, an IFCI subsidiary, oversees the fund's investments. Since its launch in the 2014-15 financial year, the fund has been actively working towards achieving its intended goals.
Revenue: IFCI Ltd reported consolidated revenue of ₹2,018.52 crore in FY25 vs ₹1986.58 crore in FY24. It showed an increase of 1.60% on a yearly basis, reflecting decent growth.
