Aarti Industries

Aarti Industries Limited (AIL) is a leading Indian manufacturer of specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals. AIL manufactures chemicals for pharma companies, farm chemicals, materials, additives, soaps and colour dyes.

AIL’s key manufacturing units are located in Sarigam, Vapi, Bharuch, and Jhagadia in Gujarat and in Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra. These facilities contribute to its diverse portfolio of over 200 products. AIL serves 700 domestic customers and exports to 60 countries. The company has a significant presence in the United States, Europe, China, and Japan.

AIL was incorporated as Aarti Organics Limited in September 1984, as a private limited company and was converted into a public limited company in October 1990. The company belonged to the Alchemic Group of Companies promoted by Chandrakant V and associates. The company commenced commercial operations in 1986 with a 1200 Tonnes Per Annum (TPA) unit for Nitro Chloro Benzenes (NCB) in Sarigam.

On February 8, 1995, Aarti Industries launched its initial public offering (IPO).

Business Operations of AIL

The company operates three state-of-the-art Research and Development (R&D) centres, focusing on Speciality Chemicals and Pharmaceutical Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). In 2001, it commissioned manufacturing operations at a new unit in Bharuch and established two R&D centres in Turbhe and Vapi. The same year, AIL set up a large-scale hydrogenation and nitration unit at Jhagadia.

In 2005, Aarti Industries increased the production capacity of Nitro Chloro Benzenes (NCB) and sulphuric acid. It also established a large-scale speciality chemical unit in Kutch, Gujarat. During this time, AIL received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) unit in Tarapur, Maharashtra.

In November 2015, the company further increased the NCB capacity from 57,000 Tons Per Annum (TPA) to 75,000 TPA, strengthening its position in the market.

In 2016, the company set up an ethylation facility at Dahej SEZ using ethylene gas via a pipeline. The NCB capacity was expanded again from 57,000 TPA to 75,000 TPA. In 2018, Aarti Industries commissioned the Nitro Toluene plant and a manufacturing facility in Dahej SEZ. In 2019, the Nitro Toluene hydrogenation facility at Jhagadia became operational.

In 2020, Aarti Industries achieved the operationalisation of the Aarti Research and Technology Centre at Mahape in Navi Mumbai, and also started two units at Dahej SEZ for high-value speciality chemicals.

Aarti Industries also operates globally through subsidiaries like Aarti USA Inc. The company has diversified into various sectors, including agrochemicals, aromatics, dyes, fuel additives, pharmaceuticals, pigments, polymer additives, printing inks and surfactants.

In 2021, Aarti Industries successfully demerged its Pharma entity, creating a separate company named Aarti PharmaLabs Ltd.
