A leading supplier of technology and services, the Bosch Group comprises Robert Bosch GmbH and its roughly 470 subsidiaries and regional companies in over 60 countries.
The group operates in India through 15 companies, with Bosch Ltd being its flagship in the country.
Since its establishment in 1951, Bosch India has expanded its manufacturing operations to encompass 17 manufacturing sites and has set up seven development and application centres. With a workforce of over 38,700 associates, the Bosch Group in India achieved consolidated sales of approximately ₹30,368 crores in 2022-23, with Bosch Ltd’s revenue exceeding ₹14,929 crores during the same period.
The Bosch Group started its India journey when it began the sale of automobile parts through Illies Company – a Bosch agency in Calcutta. The first Bosch service workshop was established in India in 1924. In 1951, Bosch India started operations as Motor Industries Co. Ltd. (Mico). It signed agreements with Bosch for the manufacture of spark plugs and single-cylinder diesel injection pumps under licence from Bosch.
The Bosch Group hit another milestone in 1998, when Robert Bosch India Ltd, a 100% owned subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH, began software activities in the country.
On February 1, 2008, Mico was renamed as Bosch Limited. Meanwhile, the software arm Robert Bosch India was renamed Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Ltd.
The equity shares of the company were listed on BSE and NSE in 1969 and 2003, respectively. As of December 2023, the company has a market capitalisation of ₹64,608 crore. Bosch share price has gone up over 72% in the last three years.
Business operations
Mobility: The company has more than 4,000 engineers developing innovative products under its mobility division, with seven development and application centres.
Consumer Goods: Bosch Home Appliances offers an extensive range of products including kitchen appliances, washers and dryers, cleaning and care products, fridges and freezers to provide intelligent and appealing solutions to consumers.
Industry Technology: Bosch offers innovative products and services for industry and trades, including Drive and control technology (mobile applications, factory automation, and process plant engineering solutions), engineering and business solutions (through a 100% owned subsidiary Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd), power tools for professionals (to produce professional results in all fields of craftsmanship) and security solutions (video surveillance, intrusion detection, fire detection, and voice evacuation systems).
Energy and Building Solutions: The company designs and installs energy efficiency projects for the industrial and commercial sectors.
Financial highlights
