KPIT Technologies is an Indian technology company headquartered in Pune and is popularly known referred to simply as KPIT. The company provides software to automobile companies and OEMs. The company was founded by Ravi Pandit and Kishor Patil in 1990 as KPIT Infosystems. In 2013, KPIT announced that it was changing its name to KPIT Technologies as a part of its rebranding. The company stated that the addition of the word ‘Technologies’ would help set itself up as an expert in creating a technological edge through its portfolio of diverse solutions and services.

  • Autonomous Driving & ADAS: System engineering for seamless automated driving.
  • Electric & Conventional Powertrain: Ready-to-implement software (SW) platforms for electric vehicle components (Inverter, BMS, Charger, VCU) that are AUTOSAR compliant. KPIT provides a faster, integrated, and more sustainable strategy to design and develop electric vehicles.
  • Connected Vehicles: KIVI, KPIT's in-vehicle infotainment system brings benefits of the platform approach such as cost, quality, and cycle-time improvement to the design and development of modern cockpit experiences.
  • Vehicle Diagnostics: KPIT works with global OEM/Tier 1s’ on their diagnostic transformation journey through a host of standards-driven, end-to-end diagnostic and mobility solutions and services.
  • AUTOSAR: With many years of AUTOSAR experience, the company offers AUTOSAR solutions such as High-Performance Compute (HPC) Platforms, Real-Time Critical ECUs, Sensors, and I/O Concentrators.
  • Vehicle Engineering & Design: Classical mechanical engineering & design services such as Value Engineering, CAD, CAE simulation, and mechatronics.

Domestically, KPIT has a heavy presence in Pune and Bangalore. In Asia, its presence spreads across Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, and Shanghai. CSR and Sustainability


KPIT firmly believes in the power of the youth and has introduced initiatives that provide quality education. KPIT Sparkle was launched in 2015 as a platform that promotes innovation and entrepreneurship skills amongst school and college students from STEM backgrounds (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) by providing them an opportunity to develop groundbreaking solutions for the betterment of society. They were also awarded Exemplary Innovation for KPIT Sparkle at the FICCI CSR Awards.The company also has several initiatives that promote the conscious usage and conservation of energy and natural resources and provide students access to quality education. KPI joined forces with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) to launch the KPIT Shodh Awards, which serves as a platform for PhD researchers to showcase their research work and be recognized in the fields of energy and mobility.

Criticism


In 2016, KPIT issued a clarification on its legal dispute with a former US-based client. Following this, the company's shares slumped by as much as 8.7%.

COVID-19 Impact


There were no cuts in engineering spending and most of them continued to work remotelyFew teams were moved offshore from client locations and global centres to drive offshore volume up and impact FY21 dollar revenue. Clients cut back on spending during the onset of COVID with KPIT's business declining to ₹492.7 crores in 2019. Despite the decline, the company was able to hold on to the operating margins of 13.4 percent.As of 2022, the net profit of KPIT Technologies emerged to be Rs 85.43 crore in the June 2022 quarter against ₹60.25 in June 2021.

Future Prospects


The future prospects that stand out for the enterprise are:
  • The technology market has a bullish trend as big data analytics, cloud computing as well as internet technology growth are in the midst of huge transformations.
  • They have recently started work on a project from the CIRT (Central Institution of Road Transport) to create indigenous technology that deals with Smart Electric Buses.
  • They have also started work after selection by UPPCO, Michigan for new SAP software applications.
  • The new and upcoming business model is taking into considerations more mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures.
  • The company is also investing in growth platforms like Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technology - Revolo and more.

KPIT won the “Promising Transport Innovation Award'' at the International Transport Forum Summit, in Germany for REVOLO in 2016. In 2021, it won the ‘Indirect Sourcing Partner’ Supplier of the year award from one of its long-standing Tier-1 clients and was recognized as a Leader in the Everest Group PEAK Matrix Assessment for Autonomous, Connected Electric, and Shared (ACES) Mobility Automotive Engineering Services in the same year.

Initial Public Offering


KPIT made its IPO public in 2019 and was oversubscribed over 50 times. In FY 2021-22, the KPIT stock price reported over 19.5% growth in the top line and 28% volume growth. The company also reported that the mentioned financial year ended with a net PAT of ₹2,762.43 million and experienced a continued focus on cash conversion with 13 consecutive quarters of net cash increase.

Equity Shares


In the year ending March 2022, the company spent less than 1% of its operating revenues on interest expenses and 66.21% on employee costs. Its stock enabled a 3-year return of 445.85% as compared to the Nifty Midcap 100 which gave a return of 104.18%.KPIT's stocks generated a 445.85% return as compared to Nifty IT which gave investors a 73.58% return over a 3 year time period.
