The company is a part of the global conglomerate Mahindra Group. The market capitalisation of Tech Mahindra stood at over ₹1.26 lakh crore as of December 18, 2023. Mahindra & Mahindra entered into a joint venture with British Telecom in 1986. This led to the establishment of a technology outsourcing company known as Tech Mahindra. Initially, British Telecom held approximately 30% stake in Tech Mahindra. There were gradual shifts in ownership over the years. British Telecom ended its ownership by selling its remaining 9.1% stake in December 2012.

Their core strength lies in leveraging cutting-edge technologies like 5G, metaverse, blockchain, quantum computing, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI).

Tech Mahindra has achieved many milestones in its nearly four-decade long journey. The acquisition of Satyam Computers in 2009 marked a significant development for Tech Mahindra. Tech Mahindra hit the global headlines when it became the official IT partner and sponsor for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The IT services arm of the Mahindra Group ranked 5th among India's software services firms and an overall 111 on the Fortune India 500 list in 2012. The year 2014 witnessed another significant milestone as Tech Mahindra acquired Lightbridge Communications Corporation (LCC), the largest independent telecom services company globally. Lightbridge had operations across more than 50 countries.

Tech Mahindra increased its portfolio in March 2021. It acquired ThoughtSpot, a US-based business intelligence analytics company.

In October 2022 , Tech Mahindra acquired Upendra Singh Multi Transmission Private Limited. This strategic move allowed the company to secure access to 1.5 MW of solar energy to power its facilities located in Noida. Tech Mahindra collaborated with Anyverse in 2023 to jointly develop autonomous technology for the automotive sector.

Financial Highlights

The consolidated revenue from operations for FY 2022-23 stood at ₹53,290 crore, up 19.4% compared to ₹44,646 crore in FY 2021-22. The company reported a profit after tax of ₹4,831 crore in FY23, down 13.2% year-on-year compared to ₹5,566 crore in FY22. EBITDA stood at ₹8,029 crore as against ₹ 8,020 crore in FY22. Tech Mahindra Ltd. made a total capital expenditure of ₹47,455 crore in FY23. The operating profit margin dropped to 15.1% from 18% in the previous financial year. The earnings per share (EPS) dropped to ₹54.56 in FY23 compared to ₹63.32 in the last financial year.
