RVNL Share Price

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) is a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways. The construction wing of the Indian Railways was incorporated on January 24, 2003. Its primary goals include addressing the country's growing need for railway infrastructure.

To address the infrastructure gaps within Indian Railways, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced the National Rail Vikas Yojana (NRVY) on August 15, 2002. Under the NRVY roadmap, RVNL was established as a 100% government-owned public sector undertaking (PSU). Its core objectives included sourcing additional financial resources and expediting the implementation of projects aimed at expanding rail infrastructure. RVNL commenced full operations in March 2005.

A major player in the railway infrastructure sector, RVNL holds the status of a navratna.

RVNL launched its initial public offering (IPO) on March 29, 2019, becoming the third railway PSU to go public, following Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) and Indian Railway Construction International Limited (IRCON). The company was listed on both BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on April 19, 2019.

RVNL’s market capitalisation stood at more than ₹37,100 crore, as on December 12, 2023. RVNL share price has surged more than 660% in the last three years.

The government holds 72.8% stake in the company while Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) holds 5.62% stake in the company (as on the quarter ending September 30, 2023).

RVNL business operations

RVNL engages in diverse projects encompassing the laying of railway tracks, electrification of lines, construction of railway bridges and the establishment of workshops or production units. Apart from managing projects for Indian Railways, the PSU also undertakes several metro and high-speed railway projects. These include projects such as Chennai Metro Rail, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, Surat Metro and Gujarat Metro.

In FY 2022-23, RVNL accomplished the commissioning of 1,044 km of new line and doubling, surpassing the 1,000-kilometre benchmark for the second consecutive year.

Financial highlights

RVNL’s consolidated revenue stood at ₹21,278 crore in FY23 compared to ₹20,181.95 in FY22. The net profit stood at ₹1,420.55 crore in FY23 compared to ₹1,110 crore in the preceding fiscal. RVNL’s earnings per share increased to ₹6.81 in FY23 from ₹5.32 apiece in FY22. In FY23, the company’s total assets stood at ₹18,442 crore compared to ₹20,065 crore in FY23.
